Conscious Sedation at Favorite Smile Pediatric Dentistry offers a safe and effective way to help children relax during dental procedures. This approach uses medication to keep your child calm and comfortable while ensuring they remain conscious and responsive throughout their visit.
Conscious Sedation is caused by special drugs and is used to help relieve anxiety during medical/dental or surgical procedures. Drugs may be given to relieve pain at the same time.
In addition to the use of Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) a sedative is given to allow a level of sedation in which a person is asleep but wakes when spoken to or touched.
PLEASE NOTE: Pregnant women must remain in the waiting room if nitrous is being used in the operatory with the child.
Please do not give your child anything to eat or drink after 12:00 AM the night before. This will cause a rescheduled appointment.
How to explain “Conscious Sedation” to a 5-year-old
Conscious Sedation is like taking a cozy nap while the dentist gently cares for your teeth. It helps you feel relaxed and calm, so you won’t feel scared or worried during your dental visit. You can still hear and respond to the dentist, and everything will be over before you know it!
